Advanced Phacoemulsification
Cataract Surgery

Bhakti Netralaya performs cataract surgery exclusively using Phacoemulsification — the gold standard, most advanced technique in modern ophthalmology. This method allows for stitch-free, virtually painless removal of the cataract through a microincision of just 2.2 to 2.8 millimetres, with rapid visual recovery and minimal post-operative restrictions.

How It Works

The Science Behind
Phacoemulsification

Phacoemulsification uses high-frequency ultrasound energy delivered through a fine probe to break the cloudy lens into microscopic fragments. These fragments are simultaneously aspirated (suctioned) out of the eye. The entire natural lens capsule is preserved as a stable pocket to hold the replacement IOL in perfect position.

The procedure is performed under topical anaesthesia — eye drops only, with no injections around the eye in most cases — meaning patients remain comfortable throughout. Surgery is performed under a surgical microscope with magnification and illumination that allows the surgeon to work with extraordinary precision.

Procedure

Step-by-Step Surgical Process

1
Topical AnaesthesiaEye drops are instilled — no injection, no general anaesthesia required in most cases
2
MicroincisionA 2.2 to 2.8mm incision is made at the clear corneal margin — self-sealing, no stitches needed
3
CapsulorhexisA precise circular opening is created in the front of the lens capsule
4
PhacoemulsificationThe probe emulsifies the cloudy lens nucleus using ultrasound energy
5
AspirationLens fragments are aspirated out and remaining soft cortex is removed
6
IOL ImplantationA foldable Intraocular Lens is injected through the same incision and unfolds inside the capsular bag
7
Self-SealingThe incision self-seals — no sutures required in the vast majority of cases
Surgery CompletePatient is ready for discharge — same day, day-care procedure
